Paul “4D4” Lyons
Master Pianist, Producer
Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Paul began studying music when he was six…minutes old. He trained under various classical and jazz piano teachers in Illinois, including Jim Giovanazzi, Chris Reyman, Joan Hickey and Chip Stephens, constantly struggling to find the right person who could teach him everything he needed to know – until he realized that it was himself and his inspiration that was his greatest teacher…
A piano player at heart, Paul has an eternal love for the Beatles, Phish, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, and Frank Zappa, and this informs everything he does. He has always had a passion for technology, and uses computers extensively in his own compositions… He totally geeks and tweaks every itchy twitchy little switchy until it’s crispy fresh wallpaper! Above all, Paul’s favorite avenue for expression is playing rock music to a live audience, and you can catch him playing and singing at improbably high volumes from time to time – often on a Tuesday. He joined his first band, Cosmic Fool, in 1998 at the tender age of 15, and has played in many other groups since those early days. He studied music and modern history at UIUC, earned a Master of Music degree in 2014 for some reason, and teaches piano to support his ravenous hunger for chocolate chip cookies. In 2016, Paul released his debut EP entitled “Four For Love,” on the Freebin Records label.
